Even before stepping into films, the Mollywood superstar Dulquer Salmaan tied the knot with Amaal Sufiya in 2011 . It was a love story that feels as cinematic as any of his onscreen romances. From being schoolmates to becoming soulmates, theirs is a tale of destiny, family, and lasting companionship. For Dulquer, Amaal wasn’t just a partner — she was the missing piece that fit seamlessly into his family and world.
As revealed during an earlier conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, Dulquer and Amaal went to the same school, though she was five years younger. Back then, there was no spark between them. Years later, after finishing his studies in the U.S. and returning to India, Dulquer began facing pressure from his family to settle down. Despite meeting prospective matches, he disliked the idea of rejecting proposals — until fate stepped in.
Friends suggested Amaal’s name during marriage discussions, and suddenly Dulquer began bumping into her often in Chennai. Taking it as a sign, he decided to reach out through Facebook. After a hesitant start, Amaal agreed to meet for coffee. This marked the beginning of their love story. Dulquer recalls their first long drive to Puducherry, where they spoke for hours as a moment that sealed their bond.
Convinced of his feelings, Dulquer Salmaan told his parents, “I’m not interested in an arranged marriage. I met a girl from my school and I want to know if this is real. Please talk to her family.” With both families’ blessings, the wedding was held on December 22, 2011, in Chennai.
Soon after marriage, Dulquer began his career in films with 'Second Show' and 'Ustaad Hotel'. He has often credited Amal as his lucky charm, saying his career flourished after she entered his life. In 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Maryam Amira.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Dulquer Salmaan is riding high on the success of his production venture 'Lokah' starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead.
